New Japan Pro Wrestling celebró una conferencia de prensa para dar a conocer los pormenores de su torneo «Best of the Super Jr. 28».
En esta edición contenderán 12 luchadores en un único grupo, siendo los dos primeros lugares quienes avancen a la gran final. La competencia dará inicio el 13 de noviembre en el Tokyo Korakuen Hall y finalizará el 15 de diciembre en el Sumo Hall, con doce jornadas de competencia. El vencedor del año pasado fue Hiromu Takahashi.
El BOSJ 28 se realizará de manera simultánea con el torneo «World Tag League 2021», situación que se dará por segundo año consecutivo.
El Desperado es el actual monarca de la categoría; recién se coronó el 6 de noviembre en «Power Struggle 2021» superando a Robbie Eagles. Desperado sí compite en el torneo, pero en caso de que no se lleve la competencia, será el ganador de la misma quien probablemente lo desafíe en «Wrestle Kingdom 16».
