The AJPW of giant slime focused on weaving a network of alliances around the world and producing a style of wrestling based on psychology and storytelling.
The 80's and 90's were the golden years of the promotion, when it achieved its worldwide consolidation. This was abruptly stopped with the death of Baba and the departure of Misawa and 24 of 26 fighters in 2000.
All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) is a professional wrestling company founded by giant slime in 1972. It is the second oldest professional wrestling class in Japan, once considered the best in the world because of the network of alliances it had worldwide.
Baba defended his vision of how pro-wrestling should be, in front of other teammates of the time. As president of AJPW, Baba proved that he could treat his talents well while being demanding and tough when necessary, as happened after the talent exile in 1990. His work marked the style and future of big names like Jumbo Tsuruta, Genichiro Tenryu and the Four Pillars of AJPW (Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, Akira Taue and Toshiaki Kawada).
Throughout its history, AJPW has suffered three great schisms, which put its permanence at risk. In 1990, Genichiru Tenryu and seven other wrestlers left the company to found Super World of Sports. This allowed the rise and growth to star rank of the four pillars.
After Giant Baba's death in 1999, Mitsuharu Misawa became president of the company; But he had many disagreements with Motoko Baba, Baba's widow, so Misawa left the company in 2000 to found NOAH, followed by 24 fighters.
Thereafter, AJPW was never able to reach the level it once was, despite talent like Keiji Mutoh, Satoshi Kojima and Kendo Kashin arriving from NJPW in 2002. When Mutoh became president of the company, it underwent a process of "Americanization", which Motoko Baba never allowed Misawa.
The third schism occurred in 2013, when Keiji Mutoh resigned, accompanied by 12 fighters, who disagreed with the changes in ownership and when Nobuo Shiraishi, a businessman, took over AJPW and whose leadership proved disastrous for the company.
Despite all the troubles of the past few years, including ownership changes, AJPW is experiencing a steady but slow renaissance and is preparing to celebrate half a century of its founding.
AJPW has some of the most prestigious championships in the world. The most important is the Triple Crown, which was created in 1989 from the merger of three championships, the National Unified NWA, the PWF Full Weight and the NWA International Full Weight. Due to the importance of the three titles, as well as the incredible fighting for him, the Triple Crown quickly became one of the most important championships in the world.
In addition to the Triple Crown, AJPW has other prestigious championships such as the World Tag Team Title, which emerged in June 1988; the Jr. AJPW World Championship created in 1989 and the All Asia Couples Championship, which was created at the JWA in 1955. After the JWA closed its doors in 1973, the title was transferred to AJPW and is the longest active title. ancient worldwide.
