Cody Rhodes se marchó de WWE frustrado por la falta de oportunidades y por estar encasillado en un personaje denominado Stardust. Actualmente, disfruta de la pasión que volvió a sentir por la industria en el mundo de la lucha libre independiente.
Y fue allí en donde tras ayudar a la compañía independiente DEFY1 Wrestling a conseguir un histórico lleno en Seattle, Washington, protagonizó un muy gracioso momento cuando un aficionado le empezó a llamar por el nombre de su antiguo personaje, del cual aunque respetaba, no era del todo de su agrado.
